What are clear aligners?
Clear aligners are modern solution for teeth correction without brackets and wires. Clear, smooth and durable plastic is adapted to the shape of the teeth. Every two weeks you replace the aligner with a new set that slowly adjusts your teeth to the desired position.
How to get started?
The first step is to make sure the clear aligners are the right thing for you. In most cases, they work just as well as the orthodontic braces, but for a serious misalignment, classic orthodontic braces may still be a better option.
After you decide on aligner treatment, we will make an imprint of your teeth and a set of dental photos, which we’ll use to make the first set of aligners.
How are the clear aligners used?
You wear them for about 22 hours a day, including the night time. This treatment can be completed in just 20 weeks for many patients.
Only remove them while eating and cleaning the teeth. Since you can remove them, you can continue to eat whatever you want, with just a few exceptions. Some foods or drinks may cause a change in color of the aligner (coffee, for example). To avoid this, regularly clean your teeth and aligners, and limit the consumption of coffee or cigarettes, which may change the color of the aligner.
Visit to our clinic should be planned every 4-6 weeks in order to review your progress and make changes if necessary.
One of the advantages of clear aligners is that you can remove them during cleaning. Do not forget to floss and brush every day to avoid cavities.
Are clear aligners better than braces?
Clear aligners are virtually invisible – unlike classic orthodontic braces.
Clear aligners are comfortable, and while they can at first cause mild discomfort, most patients feel it is much more comfortable to wear them than traditional braces which can cause scarring and make eating painful.
You can take them off – The fact that the aligners can be removed during a meal and during a dental exam, is another major reason why patients choose them over traditional braces.
On the other hand, there are several reasons why traditional braces may be a better option for you. Our specialist Dr. Ana Parčina will help you in deciding this.
Orthodontic braces are affordable – aligner therapy is usually more expensive.
Some treatments scenarios may require traditional braces – clear aligners work well for many patients, but for people with severe anomalies, braces may be the only solution.
Can I switch to clear aligners from traditional braces?
Yes, you can switch to clear aligners from traditional braces, but before you make a decision, consult our team to determine the best treatment plan for you. Since the aligners therapy is a separate treatment plan, the cost of the treatment will be higher.
Who can wear them?
Regardless of age, if the teeth are full grown, clear aligners are an option.
